The Albury Basketball Association (ABA) has officially launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, outlining a bold vision to make basketball the sport of choice for families across the region.
Built in partnership with Motive Business Consulting on extensive consultation with members, clubs, coaches, referees, and community stakeholders, the plan positions ABA to capitalise on the rapid growth of the Albury–Wodonga region and strengthen its role as one of regional Australia’s leading basketball communities.
The five-year roadmap focuses on expanding participation, improving facilities, strengthening pathways, and fostering a more inclusive and connected basketball environment.
ABA President Aaron Weathers said the strategy reflects both the strengths of the association and the opportunities ahead.
“Basketball in Albury is already thriving, but this plan sets a clear direction for where we’re going next. We’re focused on making the game more accessible, building stronger pathways, and creating an environment where every participant—player, coach, referee, or volunteer—can thrive.”
With more than 2,000 active participants and a growing population base, ABA is aiming to expand its reach while addressing key challenges, including limited court access and the need for stronger senior competitions.
Key Priorities for 2026–2030
The Strategic Plan is built around five core pillars:
Participation & Inclusion – Removing barriers to entry and growing the game across all ages and backgrounds
Development & Pathways – Creating clear pathways from grassroots to representative basketball
Women & Girls – Increasing female participation, leadership, and visibility
Community & Culture – Strengthening connection, belonging, and enjoyment across the association
Governance, Finance & Facilities – Delivering strong leadership, sustainability, and future-ready infrastructure
A major focus will be advocating for expanded facilities, including securing additional courts to meet growing demand, while also improving access through partnerships with schools and community venues.
A Vision for the Future
By 2030, ABA aims to be nationally recognised for its inclusive programs, strong grassroots participation, and high-quality pathways for players and officials.
The plan also commits to re-establishing senior domestic competitions, expanding opportunities for women and girls, and strengthening partnerships with organisations such as AlburyCity, Basketball NSW, and the Albury Wodonga Bandits.
“This is more than a strategy—it’s a commitment to our community,” Weathers said. “We want basketball to be a place where people feel welcome, supported, and proud to be involved.”
The Strategic Plan will be supported by annual operational plans, transparent reporting, and ongoing community engagement to ensure accountability and progress over the next five years.
